Baby shower #6 was a complete surprise!!!! I had just passed out a grammar test to my class when another third grade teacher came to get me to talk to one of her students about a behavior issue in the hallway. I left my door open so I could hear my students and stepped out into the hallway. (Little did I know that while I was talking with this student, my class was sneaking across the hallway to Ms. Gupton's classroom.) As I was making my way back to my classroom after the situation in the hallway had been resolved, Ms. Gupton asked me to come help her with something in her classroom. I had been away from my class for several minutes and was a bit worried about what they might be doing while they were on their own, so I hesitantly told her that it would have to be quick because I needed to get back to my classroom. As I stepped into Ms. Gupton's room I was greeted with a big "Surprise!". It took me a second to realize what was going on! All of my students and Ms. Gupton's students were there, along with parents, food, decorations, and gifts. I was so shocked and humbled that my students would do something like this for me that I began crying! I didn't even know what to say! The kids were so excited about surprising me! Since we were limited on time, the parents began serving food, while I walked around and thanked all of my kids for doing this for me. After everyone had had a chance to eat, I began opening presents. The kids LOVED watching me open presents! They had a really hard time staying in their seats! I couldn't believe the generosity of my students! Baby Poff received so many nice things!!!! The best part of the day for my kids was that they got out of having to take their grammar test that day!
So here is the back story: One of my student's mom is a teacher at our school. She emailed all of my other parents and told them about the shower. She also had Ms. Gupton send a flier home with both classes. In the meantime, the students (who had known about the shower for almost 2 weeks) began bringing presents to school. They were given two different drop off places, depending on how they get to school. They were so excited about surprising me that none of them said a word about any of it! I can't believe that 50 third graders were able to keep a secret like that!
Everything about the shower was perfect! It was definitely a day that I will never forget! This class means so much to me, and I'm so glad that I was able to share this special time in my life with each and every one of them!
